About Me
Hi, I’m Jennifer Calero, MBA but call me Jenn!
All good relationships start by getting to know each other.
So, here’s what you need to know about me!
I’m a mom, wife, and dog mom to 2 English Bulldogs.
I own Small Talk and volunteer my time with a number of organizations, my favorite being the Breast Cancer Network of WNY.
I love all things chocolate and I’m not a morning person!
Fresh out of college if you had asked me where I would be today, I would have said that I’d be running the marketing department for some big corporation wearing a power suit to work every day.
Today that sounds like my own version of hell on Earth! Having kids changed what was important. I started Small Talk after my daughter was born in 2012 and I’ve never looked back.
Well sometimes I look back, but it’s not what you think.
The truth…I always wanted to be a hairstylist. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to my local cos school and got a brochure thinking I was really going to do it. I was going to go back and become a cosmetologist.
After getting an undergraduate degree in communications, a Master’s in Business Administration and working as an on-staff sales and marketing director for a local spa, I just couldn’t wrap my arms around going back to school.
So, I found a way to marry my passion for beauty industry with my skills and experience by working with beauty business owners and other service providers to help them organize their marketing, get consistent and get results.
How we get things done…Small Talk style
Small businesses are built on conversations.
It’s the “Who did your hair?” moment at a party.
The teacher asking what skincare you’re using.
A friend recommending their favorite esthetician, coach, or service provider.
That kind of word-of-mouth doesn’t happen because someone ran a clever ad campaign. It happens because the business behind the recommendation is clear, trustworthy, and easy to talk about.
That belief is the reason I named this company Small Talk Marketing.
Over the years, I’ve worked with many small business owners who felt overwhelmed by marketing because they were trying to keep up with everything — social media trends, ads, constant promotions, and conflicting advice about what they “should” be doing.
What I’ve learned is that most businesses don’t need more marketing activity.
They need a stronger foundation.
That’s why my work is built around The Small Talk Method, a simplified approach to marketing that focuses on three things:
Foundation – Clarifying your brand, positioning, and messaging so people understand what you do and can confidently recommend you.
Presence – Strengthening your online presence through strategic website design, cohesive branding, and clear communication so potential clients can easily trust what they see.
Support – Providing ongoing consulting and guidance so your marketing stays focused, intentional, and aligned with your goals.
Instead of chasing trends or trying to be everywhere, we focus on building businesses that are easy to understand, easy to recommend, and easy to grow.
Because when your foundation is strong and your marketing is clear, growth doesn’t have to feel chaotic.
Sometimes it just starts with a little small talk.
